I'm happy I found this corner of Substack so soon in my own "journey" (I kind of hate that word! 😂). As a total newbie here, it's nice to know there's a chance, if I put the miles in, it could work out to be a great place. It already "feels" better than any other social media platform, so that's a good thing right out of the gate.
Thank you for sharing your wisdom with us. As a freelance editor and creative writer, one who has finally decided to turn up the volume on that part of my heart, I look forward to your continued blessings from Mount Substack 🙌🏻
Hi, from another ex-big 5 editor (though in the UK), mum of a neurodivergent child, and 'grumpy introvert'! ☺️ In my case, I left to become a literary agent, who is also a freelance editor (separately to the agent work, of course).
Love your comments about having a life outside of Publishing, too! So many in the industry never talk about this on social media and it's so important to carve out that time away from the day job
Great post, so glad I read this. I love the reminder that growth can be quiet and still meaningful, and staying true to your own voice while growing one reader at a time feels so reassuring.💛
You know--from my vantage point--I think that one of the reasons you've grown is because there's a "goodness" about you--a non-diva-pundit thing--that comes across in every one of your posts. And also--your posts are always of a manageable time so they are the first I go to in my inbox--because I know I can read/digest fairly quickly. (Translation: there is no sense of an impending cognitive overload.)
This is one of my fave compliments ever - a non-diva-pundit thing! I love it. And I purposefully try to keep my articles short. 1-4 minutes. Because I don't want you to waste any time reading or thinking about my articles...read fast, take what resonates and go write! Glad that is working!!
I did think with how curated your socials are and the fun reels and the eBooks, etc that “Wow! Kristen can really do it all.” Reassuring to know that it’s you plus a talented team. 😅🤣🤔🙈
Such a nice piece, Kristen. Bringing up that it's okay to have or seek help with our work and what we're building is the reminder I needed today. Thank you.
Wow, you know the guy who created Short Reads? I'm so impressed!
And thanks for the inside look at your team. Looks like a fun time!
This comment made my day, Karen (and this post made my month, Kristen)--I'm flattered and honored!!
We do have fun! And Stephen is the best!

Yes! So important to carve out time from our day job. We don’t want to burn out on the love of reading, which is the most important part.
Great post, so glad I read this. I love the reminder that growth can be quiet and still meaningful, and staying true to your own voice while growing one reader at a time feels so reassuring.💛
Yes! I might never go viral, but I’d rather have 15 real people over 60,000 bots 🤣
Same here! 😁

I will be there, with ice cream!
Aww! Love that you have this wonderful and supportive team. Yay!
They are the best! And it frees me up to be on my own best teams, like yours!!!!

There is no way person could do that all. Even with all the ice cream I eat. 🤣
Well, I did wonder but you’re a bit of a superwoman so… 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️😅
