Hello Kristen. How awesome to get a picture of the woman behind the professional. I enjoy (and appreciate) what you share. As an Aussie, Halloween was never a thing for us (until fairly recently in a really over the top gruesome commercial way). But living in Honduras, I'm getting an immersion awakening of "mystical realism" (hope I've got the term right) and feel very much this "liminal" time. Thanks for you. Enjoy your trick or treating 😊
Hey Kirsten. Lovely to hear from you. Not so much Halloween, as my first year here in Honduras was in 2015 to teach in English in a bilingual school. One of my fellow teachers (from the US) delightfully explained to her grade 5 class that they were preparing to celebrate Halloween. Silence followed (silence is almost non existent in a grade 5 classroom in Honduras ) Finally, one of the more outspoken students informed quite matter of factly, that Halloween is of the Devil and they would be holding a prayer circle in her house that night if tge teacher would like to attend. Needless to say, the Halloween plans didnt eventuate. The day of the dead is more a thing, but not to the extent of Mexico. Here it is more tenfing to graves of loved ones. But there is very much a religious and perhaps superstitious undercurrent here. So i do feel more in tune to magical realism here and am keen to explore it more as a genre.
