Beautiful! I’ve not written a book nor spent anytime in publishing but I can affirm that writing is vulnerable! And as a therapist I can affirm that it can greatly benefit our mental health. Thanks for this post!

I used to read Sweet Valley High, too, Kristen!

I agree - it's vital to keep our mental health paramount, especially in the cutthroat industry of rejection after rejection. I have a background in counseling, and you're right that these interpersonal skills come in handy when managing relationships in this, or any, business setting.

In 2012, I was the #5 selling author on Amazon…until I got five one star reviews in one day from what sounded suspiciously like the same person. Amazon eventually deleted the reviews but sales never recovered. I never got a five star review again after the five 1 star reviews dragged down my average. Perhaps this author/saboteur is mentally ill but likely they are just an a-hole and the Internet and the people around her have rewarded her for living her adult life as if she’s playing a game of charades instead of being a real person. Everyone ate up every lie she told until she lost touch with reality. That’s not mental illness tho. It’s entitlement. I’m glad the authors she hurt got a shout out in the article!!
